Burnie, Tasmania’s fourth largest city, has many claims to fame, not the least being its beautiful parklands. Burnie Park itself is regarded as perhaps Tasmania's finest. However, Fern Glade on the outskirts of Burnie, is a wonderful, relaxing reserve featuring a short walk suitable for people of all ages. The 500m (one way) walk takes approximately 15-minutes, not allowing for photographic stops or snack time, in this quiet, scenic riverside picnic area.

Graded at Level 1, the Fern Glade walk is suitable for all levels of fitness.

Clothing suitable to the day should be worn and a sun hat, sunglasses and sun block are all recommended.

One of the features of Fern Glade, apart from its tranquil beauty, is that often visitors have the chance to see a Platypus in the river - so be sure to take your camera with you.

Pets are allowed in the reserve, however, no bicycles or firearms are permitted.

Please note that the reserve closes at dusk daily, reopening at 7.30am.

Facilities:
There are dedicated picnic areas and car parks and toilets are situated at each end of the track. There are also several fireplaces, however these are strictly BYO firewood.

Vehicle Access:
Approach Fern Glade Road from the Bass Highway (A1) on the eastern approach to Burnie.
